The Chinese writer know as Tianyi by her online name have been sentenced to jail for 10 years. the writer was sentenced for including a gay sex scene in her novel and selling Obscene material”.

The writer was jailed by a court in Anhui province. Her novel titled “occupation”
included male homosexual behaviour… including perverted sexual acts like violation and abuse.

It was reported that the writer had once been sentenced to jail by the People’s Court of Wuhu for making and selling “obscene material” for profit. BBC Reported. However, details of the hearing only emerged on Chinese media outlets this week.

Meanwhile, her sentence has sparked criticism from many social media users,

“10 years for a novel? That’s too much,” said one social media user on Weibo.

Deng Xueping, a Shanghai-based lawyer at Capital Equity Legal Group, said the punishment had been too harsh and judicial interpretation of pornography laws needed to be revised.

“It’s out of touch with all the changes that have taken place in society,” he said. “The social harm of pornographic books might not be as grave as the legislators had thought initially. Nowadays, pornography is ubiquitous.”

Another referenced an incident in 2013, where a former official was sentenced to eight years in prison for raping a four year old girl.

“Those found guilty of rape get less than 10 years in jail. This writer gets 10 years,” another Weibo user added.

Liu, her real name, is said to have sold over 7,000 copies of Occupation and other erotic novels and made 150,000 yuan ($21,604, £16,782) in profit, reported state news outlet the Global Times. BBCNEWS.
