The Nigerian Police Force will today arraign Senator Ademola Adeleke in an Abuja court today Tuesday, May 7.
The Osun State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate was detained in court on Monday when he went to honour a police invitation at the Force Headquarters, Abuja.
“Senator Adeleke is currently in police custody. He was taken into custody in the evening of 6th, May, 2019, in connection with ongoing criminal investigations touching on his person,” said the Police Public Relations Officers, Frank Mba.
“Adeleke would be tried in connection with a criminal investigation. Meanwhile, in the best tradition of natural justice and fair hearing, he has already been served with the relevant charge sheet containing his alleged offences in the presence of his attorneys.
“He will be arraigned in a competent court of law tomorrow, 7th May, 2019.”
Meanwhile, the PDP has described the move as an invitation to anarchy, adding that the detention of Senator Adeleke is a direct act of violence against laws.
“This is highly provocative, an invitation to anarchy and recipe for a very serious crisis not only in Osun but also in the judiciary and our polity as a nation.
The arrest and detention of Senator Adeleke is a direct act of violence against our laws, the institution of the judiciary and the 1999 Constitution (as amended),” the party said.
The PDP equally call for the unconditional release of the aspirant.
