The Economic and Financial Crimes Commissions (EFCC) has arrested upcoming Nigerian musician, Afeez Fashola popularly called Naira Marley.
The ‘Issa Goal’ crooner is currently at the anti-graft’s Lagos office, following his recent comments on internet fraud on social media.
Naira Marley, during his recent applause of internet fraud, asked Nigerians to pray for ‘Yahoo boys’ because they are responsible for the circulation of money in the economy and not the government.
He said “All the money, you are spending, all the money you guys are spending, it’s the government that is making it go round. You better sit down and pray for yahoo guys, if they (government) stop yahoo, the money will just go from Obasanjo to Tinubu to Mr Japa. You think I need Yahoo, I don’t need Yahoo, I make money from music.”
“I’m just telling, he who has ears let them hear, I’m only revealing things to you through this talk. All the money that is being circulated from the woman that sells pepper to the woman that sells palm oil and to the runs girls (prostitutes) and he spends on you for you to get a cab and buy stuff, where do you think that money is coming from?” he said
His comment generated outrages across all social media platforms; some fans supported him, while some criticized him, calling him a shame to the image of Nigeria who should be arrested by the government for his insensitive comments.
Days later, he released a single ‘Am I A Yahoo Boy?’, a song that adores internet fraud featuring his fellow underground musician, Zlatan Ibile.
Naira Marley’s arrest comes barely 24 hours after the release of ‘Am I A Yahoo Boy’ music video.
