Veteran Nollywood actress Idowu Philips popularly called iya rainbow was born on 16 October 1942 at Ijebu Ode, Ogun state.
She had her early education in Ogun state and thereafter got admitted into a nursing school after which she was employed and worked for 20 years before she ventured into the nollywood industry.
Iya rainbow developed passion for acting while working as a nurse; she started with a stage play on the platform of the Osumare theatre group established by her late husband Ayanfemi Philips.
In 1968, she retired from her nursing career at the age of 45 on the advice of late Yoruba movie icon Hubert Ogunde to join her husband’s theater group. She has since then become the pillar of Yoruba movies.
Iya rainbow was brought to limelight through a movie titled ‘Asiri Nla’ and featured in numerous Nollywood movies such as the judge, oga bolaji, orisa mimo, awure and many more.
Idowu Philips was married to late Ayanfemi Philips popularly called ‘Baba Osumare’ and their union was blessed with 5 children. After the demise of her husband, she has taken the burden of nurturing her children alone without getting married again.
Iya Rainbow was endorsed by the popular network organization Airtel in 2017 and no doubt a model to women in the nollywood industry and Nigeria at large.
