US Open 2017: Sharapova Stuns Halep On Grand Slam Return, Konta Crashes

The former champion returned in style to tennis Grand Slam event since serving her 15 months suspension after testing positive for a banned substance at the Australian Open in 2016.

Participating via a wild card entry, Maria Sharapova stunned second seed Simona Halep 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 to move into the second round.

Johanna Konta was another top casualty as she lost in the first round to Alexandra Krunic. Despite taking the first set, the Briton number seven bowed out 6-4, 3-6, 4-6 to Russian born Serbia tennis player.
