Two Unilag Students In Court For Attempted Rape

Two male students of the University Of Lagos UNILAG have appeared before the Yaba Chief magistrate Court in Lagos on a five count charge of an attempt to rape their course mate.

Ikedi Okpanlanedu, 21, and Samuel Idongesit, 20, are facing charges of conspiracy, attempted rape, assault, impersonation and threatening violence.

The duo were said to have lured their UNILAG female Course mate who is a make up artiste to a Hotel room, under the disguise of wanting to introduce her to a potential customer, the duo then tried to forcefully have sex with her, but her cream alerted a worker at the hotel who barged the door open and called security officers on them.

Sgt. Modupe Olaluwoye, prosecuting the case, said the incident happened at 4:41 PM on April 1 at Peace Land Hotel, Falogoro, lagos State.

“Okpanlanedu claimed to be an army personnel, and threatened to stab her with a knife he was holding, if she would not co-operate with them.

“The knife was recovered from the crime scene, and we intend to tender it in evidence,” she said. The penalty for attempted rape sits at 14 years imprisonment, while impersonation is at 3 years.

The bail was set at N200,000 with two sureties each in like sum, Must be gainfully employed and must possess evidence of 3years tax payment to the Lagos State government.
