Tanker Conveying Diesel Rams Into Electric Pole, Explodes In Lagos

A tanker conveying 33,000 liters of diesel crashed into an electric pole, subsequently fell on the NEPA Road in  Alaba-Rago yesterday.

It was reported that the yet-to-be-identified driver of the tanker was overtaking other vehicles to get ahead of them when he rammed into an electric pole in the area.

The impact of the crash was said to have resulted in a spark as the tanker fell on its side and spilled its content on the road; the spark ignited the diesel and the flame created panic in the area.

The Director-General of Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Dr. Oluwafemi  Oke-Osanyintolu, said,

“Upon the arrival of the LASEMA Response Team at the incident scene, it was observed that a tanker conveying approximately 33,000 liters of diesel had fallen on its side and was spilling its content.

“The LRT and men of the Lagos State Fire Services are carrying out suppression activities to curtail the spread of the fire. Rescue and recovery operations are ongoing. We appeal to members of the public to remain calm and obey the directives of the personnel of the Lagos State Traffic Management Agency and other agencies on the ground.”
