The Nigerian government has since the outbreak of COVID-19 proved to the nation that they are more than what Nigerians think of them, as they rise in time of help.
Days after President Muhammadu Buhari’s Ministers donated 50 percent of their salaries to assist the country in her fight against Coronavirus Pandemic; the Nigerian senators have announced their decision to donate 50 percent of their salaries.
This was disclosed in a statement on Monday by the Senate acting spokesman, Senator Godiya Akwashiki who claimed the donations are following a keen review of the national efforts to contain the Pandemic outbreak in the country.
The senate also disclosed the monthly contribution from the Upper Legislative Chamber will be sustained until Nigeria is declared safe from the ravages of this deadly disease.
The senate commends the efforts of President Buhari and the administration towards the goal of securing Nigeria against the plague and they are willing and ready to do whatever is required of them for the effectiveness of all measures in place or that may be required in future.
They also commended all agencies of the Federal and state levels for working in collaboration to protect public health across the country, acknowledged the patriotic response of individuals and organizations in combating the deadly virus.
The senate further appeals to citizens to comply with the directives on social distancing and observance of basic rules of hygiene as directed by Public Health officials.
