Reno Omokri, a former aide to ex-president Goodluck Jonathan, has lambasted President Muhammadu Buhari for failing to personally visit the site of the Lagos building collapse.
A three-storey building which was said to be housing a school collapsed on Wednesday at Ita Faji area of Lagos Island killing 12 children and a pregnant woman.
Rescue operations have been put to a halt as scores of persons have been rescued from the rubble.
“President Buhari ought to have travelled to Lagos for an on the spot assessment of the Lagos Building Collapse. As dictatorial as Putin is alleged to be, he flew to Russia’s Ural Mountains region in 2018 to participate in rescue efforts at a collapsed building in subzero weather,” Omokri tweeted.
However a statement from Femi Adesina, the president’s spokesman has it that President Muhammadu Buhari has charged Governor Akinwunmi Ambode to do all that is needful, so that such tragic developments do not recur in future.
According to the statement, the president who was re-elected on February 23 is extremely saddened by the collapse of a building housing a school in Ita Faji area of Lagos, which left fatalities, particularly of small children.
“It touches one to lose precious lives in any kind of mishap, particularly those so young and tender. May God grant everyone affected by this sad incident fortitude and succour,” the President said
