Mr Garba Shehu the senior special adviser to the President on Media and Publicity has recently commented on the rise in the cases of Kidnapping and Armed Robbery in the Northern part of the Country by suspected Fulani herdsmen.
He aalso denied accusations that the Federal Government gave the Miyetti Allah group N100 billion naira to maintain peace in the region.
He said the controversial meeting between the IG of Police and the leader of the Miyetti Allah group was that the major stakeholders had a role to play in the hunt for peace in the northern part of nigeria. He also said the Miyetti Allah leader said the reason the cattle Herdsmen went into Banditry and Kidnapping is because they had been disposed of their Cows by suspected Cattle Rustlers.
He pleaded with Nigerians not to look at the Miyetti Allah group as criminals but rather they are in the same group as the Yoruba Afenifere Group and the Ohaneze Ndigbo Group, and they are another Socio Cultural Group.
When asked if it was true that the herders were offered N100 billion to help maintain peace, Shehu said: “That is 100 per cent untrue. I have confirmed that in all the meetings held, money was never discussed.
He also stated that the meetings are not in any way related to any party signing Amnesty deals as the Miyetti Allah Group is not a Terrorist Group.
He added: “These things are being addressed and they are moving to the next stage. In states like Kogi, Benue, Kaduna, Zamfara, Katsina and Niger, they will be talking to the governors so that you can use them. They are available so that you can help the government to caution and control some of these things unfolding.”
