Police Invade Community, Arrest 7 For Stage Protest

Some personnel of the Nigeria Police Force reportedly storm Mushin area Lagos on Wednesday, to arrest residents of the area for staging protest at the headquarters of Eko Distribution Company to demand for the distribution of Prepaid Meters.

The Police officers who were deployed from Olosan Police Division stormed the area by chasing resident and arresting anyone within their reach.

Speaking with some residents, they reveal some of the electricity distribution company usually employs the services of the Police to harass and intimidate them whenever they demand for their rights.

The community spokesperson, Moses Ogunleye lamented on the inconvenience the police and the electricity distribution company put them through.

He said: “The Police officers stormed the community with their Hilux van and arrested seven of us.”

“The raid was because of the protest we staged to the headquarters of EKEDC on Tuesday to demand that they stop giving us estimated billing and distribute prepaid meters to all houses in Mushin. What they usually do is that they will come into the community, arrest people, immediately charge them to court on frivolous charges and take our people to Kirikiri.”

Another resident confirms to this revealing those that were kidnapped.

“They arrested some youth and a woman,” he said.

He added: “The woman who was arrested had just given birth to a baby and the baby is currently at home now. This is not the first time they will be doing this.”

The community residents called on the state government and the Inspector-General of Police to call police officers to order and dissuade from the indiscriminate and illegal raid and arrest of Mushin community residents.
