Edo state chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, Chief Dan Orbih expressed his worries over President Muhammadu Buhari’s failure to give assent to the amended Electoral Act.
He decried the issue of uncollected Permanent Voters Card, and unresolved card reader issues, expressing worries over the conduct of the electoral process.
“I am very worried and disturbed by the near silence of the Nigerian public about the fact that with less than 83 days to the 2019 general elections, President Muhammadu Buhari has not assented to the Electoral Act as amended by the National Assembly,” he said in an interview with journalists after receiving an honorary degree from the Igbinedion University, Okada.
He urged Nigerians to speak out on the issue and not ignore the matter, which he termed ‘serious and weighty’. He also called on University lecturers to speak up on issues affecting the country, and not isolate themselves from it.
“These are not good signs for our democracy,” he said.
