National Agency For Food Drug Administration and Control NAFDAC has announced the ban of popular pest herbicide, SNIPER due to the more than required effect it contains.
The news was released by the NAFDAC’s Director, Veterinary Medicine and Allied Products Directorate, Dr. Bukar Usman, on Wednesday at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), Ibadan. He advised agro dealers to withdraw the product from their stores and Farmers to avoid using them on their plants until further notice.
The Herbicide sniper is the one that was banned not the insecticide type, which is notoriously popular for its involvement in the recent rise of suicide among youths in the country. He stated that this is not a ban on the product but a restriction on the product, so the herbicide is not used in the home and mistaken for a insecticide which can be harmful to Humans.
