Lagos state government discloses that it will begin paying the sum of N35,000 as minimum wage to its civil servants/public servants in the state from November 2019.
The Head of Service in the state, Hakeem Muri-Okunola, made the disclosure to heads of all ministries, departments and agencies, in a circular dated Wednesday, November 27 – Muri-Okunola explains that in order to adequately process payment of the new wage in the state, the payment of salary for the month of November was being delayed beyond the 23rd-day circle
While some states in Nigeria are yet to make the commitment towards payment of the N30,000 new minimum wage, the Lagos state government has disclosed that it will begin the payment of N35,000 as minimum wage to its workers from November 2019.
The HOS explained that in order to adequately process payment of the new wage in the state, the payment of salary for the month of November was being delayed beyond the 23rd-day circle.
“The consequential increase of the new minimum wage for senior and management grade levels is as follows: GL 07: 30%; GL 08-10: 25%; GL 12-14: 22.5% and GL 15-17: 20%,” the HOS said.
He said state government’s commitment to staff welfare was reflected in the fact that the state-approved minimum wage and consequential adjustments were more than that approved by the federal government.
Muri-Okunola urged all civil servants in the Lagos state to show commitment, dedication and selflessness in carrying out their duties. “In addition, public servants are expected to give unalloyed support to the state government’s agenda, as we collectively strive to actualize set goals”, he said.
Meanwhile, civil servants at both federal and state levels in Nigeria have reasons to be joyful, especially as the yuletide is near.
This is as the National Executive Council (NEC) of the Association of the Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN) has assured them that they will have bumper salaries in December. The leadership of the ASCSN gave the assurance on Tuesday, November 26, after its meeting in Abeokuta, Ogun state.
