Justice Yusuf Halilu of the Federal Capital Territory convicted Mariam Sanda guilty of the murder of her husband and has been sentenced to death by hanging, until her last breath.
Sanda is facing trial for stabbing her husband Bilyaminu to death. But the accused who was initially convicted in custody has repeatedly pleaded that sheis not guilty of the crime.
The judge dismissed Ms Sanda’s statement that her husband fell on a broken Shisha pot during a fight on the ill-fated day.
He said available evidence proved that she has stabbed her husband with a knife with intention to kill.
As the judge pronounced Ms Sanda guilty, the accused attempted to run out of the court room while her relatives started shouting, causing an uproar in an attempt to draw public sympathy and soft landing.
This coupled with the rowdiness in the court forced the judge to go back to his chamber, promising to come out to sentence her.
The court ruled that Mariam will be convicted in Suleja correctional service pending when she exhausts her right to appeal
