Pope Francis in a new book urge clergies who are gay to leave priesthood or stick to be celibate, rather than leading a double life.
The book which is called “The Strength of Vocation” in which he made the comments as it was reviewed with Spanish priest Fernando Prado in an interview, he said, men with immense homosexual tendencies should not be allowed to function as a Catholic clergy, it would be better for priests who are actively gay to leave.
The Pope, however, said there was no room for homosexuality in the lives of priests and nuns, adding that the Church had to be “demanding” in choosing candidates for what for what is known as consecrated life.
The Book discusses the challenges of being a priest or nun today, he did not limit his opinion on clergymen in the Catholic church rather included priests, nuns, and monks who all take vows of celibacy.
It is clear that the church teaches that homosexual tendencies are not sinful in themselves, but homosexual acts are, also have recorded aa numbers of assault which are related to homosexuality.
Just two months ago, the former ambassador to the Vatican, Archbishop Carlo Maria Vigano, threw the church into turmoil with a bombshell statement against the pope and Vatican officials, saying, homosexual network existed in the Vatican, whose members helped promote each other’s careers in the church.
The book is due to be published this week in several languages, An advance copy of the Italian version was made available to Reuters. Al Jazeera reported.
