After the emergence of the All Progressive Candidates as the winner in the just concluded gubernatorial election, the Peoples Democratic Party of Lagos state, congratulates the governor-elect, Babatunde Sanwo-Olu.
The result was announced by the State Returning Officer, Prof. Eyitope Ogunbodede on Sunday with the All Progressive Congress Polling 739,445 votes to defeat their opponent, Mr Jimi Agbaje of the PDP, who polled 206,141votes.
Mr. Taofik Gani, the Peoples Democratic Party Publicity Secretary in the state, in a statement in Lagos Monday, said the congratulatory message was to exhibit sportsmanship and show respect for the laws of the land.
Mr Gani however, said PDP will not hesitate to challenge the result if there is a need to.
Gani called on the governor-elect to accommodate everyone in victory and shun politics of seclusion and retaliation.
He said: “Lagosians will not accept any excuse for any failure in governance for any reason. We advise Mr. Sanwo-Olu to hit the ground running, get competent hands, irrespective of party affiliation. This is necessary so that all hands can be on deck to move Lagos State forward as it should be.”
Also in order was Jimi Agbaje’s congratulatory message even when he believed to had lost to his opponent due to the intimidation by his rivals.
Jimi Agbaje said: “From the outset it was clear that the numbers were on our side and naturally, that was our comparable strength but the moment you had the numbers slashed, then we were at a disadvantage.
“The strategy of the other side was to make sure that those numbers did not come out to vote and to that extent it has worked in their favour.”
