Former vice-president of Nigeria Atiku Abubakar has charged that it is about time intelligence is stepped up in combating Boko Haram, as terrorists yet again attack Adamawa state.
No fewer than 26 people were reported killed on Monday evening when Boko Haram fighters overran Madagali Area of the state, leaving many injured.
“It is about time intelligence and boots on the ground are stepped up in these vulnerable parts of our country,” Atiku said.
Eyewitnesses say the attackers rode on motorcycles in large numbers into Kudakaya village in Madagali at about 7pm.
The spokesperson of the police in the state, Othman Abubakar, confirmed the attack.
“I was briefed that Boko Haram insurgents have attacked the village. I am yet to get the casualty figures, but security operatives have been deployed are on the top of the situation.”
This is one of the series of attacks witnessed in the area in recent times.
“My thoughts and prayers are with families who may have lost a dear one in the attack by terrorists in Adamawa,” Atiku added.
