Wife of the President, Mrs. Aisha Muhammadu Buhari has commended Qatar Charity, an international humanitarian organization, for their activities across Nigeria. She was speaking during the presentation of Digital Braille Quran for use by visually impaired students at the International Conference Center, Abuja on 30th April, 2019.
Mrs. Buhari said the Digital Braille Quran is an important innovation for visually impaired people. She used the opportunity to encourage other charities and philanthropic organizations to do more in this area of promoting the use of digitized knowledge resources, so that there will be no limit to the knowledge accessible to students, especially because of their disability.
Mrs. Buhari said the braille Quran is a great addition to the school library and another aid towards the teaching of Islam in particular and the provision of qualitative education in general, while expressing her commitment to work with Qatar Charity to promote education in Nigeria through the Aisha Buhari Foundation.
Executive Secretary of Qatar Charity, Dr. Hamdi Muhammad said the charity has been in operation in Nigeria for the last five years building mosques and boreholes, and sending cash transfers to orphans across different faiths. He said the Digital Quran is meant to provide some inclusion for those with visual impairment and enable them to also learn to memorize the Quran at their own pace.
Guest speaker at the event, Sheikh Tajudeen Bello drew attention to the fact that in every society, there is the strong and the weak, saying that the beauty of any society manifests when the strong comes to the aid of the weak. He commended Qatar Charity for making available the digital Quran as it will enable blind persons to read, understand and even teach it.
Goodwill messages were delivered by Dr. Isa Aliyu Pantami, Director-General National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), and the representative of Sultan of Sokoto.
Highlight of the ceremony was the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Aisha Buhari Foundation and Qatar Charity.
