Nigeria’s art and television fans have lost the iconic actor, Jimmy Johnson, the famous Okoro in the defunct Village Headmaster.
He passed on Wednesday, 8th of July after a brief illness. His death was announced by fellow actor on the set of Village Headmaster, Kate Adepegba via Facebook.
He was aged 79.
Jimi Johnson was reputed a colourful character and a multi talented actor. He was acclaimed as one of the pioneering stand-up comedians moving from night clubs to restaurants and bars performing for live audiences and relayed on the Federal Radio Nigeria stations for the show , Join The Bandwagon, hosted by Melvin Obriango.
He earned more plaudits playing the role of a teacher in the TV sit-com, The Village Headmaster.

Wole Amele, (Councillor Balogun) Esther Olusola (Sisi Clara) and her husband, Chief Segun Olusola, the creator and director of The Village Headmaster, created by the late Chief Segun Olusola is Nigeria’s longest rudnning television drama. It was televised between 1968 to 1988. It was set in a village called Oja.
