Multi-award winning Nigerian comedian and actor, Ayo Makun better known as AY, has opened up on why he spent 9 years in the university even when the system is not meant to take more than four or five years to scale through.
He spoke of why how the demise of his father and mother left him with a lot of responsibilities that he had to shoulder. All of that led to him finding it difficult to graduate from Delta State University on time.
Read his words below;
“In December 1999 when my dad passed, It was difficult to take over his position as the first son. It became even more difficult when my mum decided to join him in no time.
“Embracing the responsibilities of taking care of my four sisters and two baby brothers wasn’t the best message to preach to a waiting landlord whose rent must be paid in due time. The combination of being a big brother and father came with a price that kept me at Delta State University for 9 years as a student”.
AY whose full names are Ayodeji Richard Makun was born on August 19 and hails from Ifon, Ose local government in Ondo State. He won several awards such as the most fashionable student on campus (1999 and 2000); best show-biz promoter (2001); the most celebrated student on campus (2001) and the Jaycee club socio-personality award (2003).
He is happily married to Mabel Makun and they are blessed with a daughter.
