The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said it will not rescind its decision on presentation of a certificate of return to Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha.
This was made known by INEC’s National Commissioner, Information and Voter Education, Festus Okoye today.
Stating reasons for the INEC’s decision, Okoye said the returning officer for Imo West senatorial district election claimed that the governor was declared winner of the election under duress.
He noted that the commission had investigated and confirmed the claim by the returning officer, adding that it was stated on the INEC’s website that certificate will not be presented to a person that procured a return under duress.
Meanwhile, Okorocha reiterated that the declaration was not under duress, that he won the elections fairly, while also criticizing the commission for not presenting him a certificate of return last Thursday.
