The Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, on Friday, 2nd August announced the suspension of a female officer at the Yola Airport, for stealing $600 [#216,006] from a female pilgrims travelling to Saudi Arabia.
FAAN Spokesperson,Henrietta Yakubu, disclosed the suspension followed a report of theft involving an aviation security officer, Jennifer Luka, at the Yola International Airport.
The suspect, popularly called Ramatu, was said to have stolen the money from the bags of the passengers while carrying out regular search.
The news of the theft was first broken when the pilgrims, Hafsatu Mohammed and Aishatu Alhaji Buba, raised alarm after they discovered shortage in their Basic Travelling Allowance of $800 and called on other security staff to conduct a search on the suspect. During the search, it was discovered that Ramatu had hidden the money in her artificial hair attachment.
Mr Adamu M. Sheilk, Airport manager state ”the case has been sent to his superior officers at the FAAN’s corporate headquarters in Abuja for investigation. He said: “Yes, it is true there was a professional misconduct by one of our officers and we have packaged all that’s needed and forwarded them to our headquarters for further action.” Even more, the agency said that the suspect’s suspension will remain indefinite pending the completion of investigation into the development.
FAAN’s spokesperson, Henrietta Yakubu, in a statement, said:“FAAN deeply regrets this unfortunate incident and the conduct of Jennifer, which does not reflect the values of the Authority and its staff, also,“The Authority wishes to re-assure the general public that our airports remain safe and secure for travellers and other airport users.
Moreover, the spokesman of police command in Adamawa state, DSP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, said that Ramatu is in custody at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Yola, adding that she would be arraigned before court upon conclusion of investigation
