Evan’s N300m Rights Claim: Court Adjourns Further Proceedings To September 21

The suspected kidnapper accused the Nigerian Police of two charges against him hence demanding a sum of N300m.

Popular kidnapper Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike popularly known as Evans has challenged his detention since June 10 without arraignment while also claiming that his parade on June 11 before journalists at the Lagos police command headquarters in Ikeja, without a court order, is unconstitutional and illegal.

He has since demanded that the court awards him N300m as exemplary damages for his alleged illegal detention and the alleged harm caused by his media trial.

He also asked the court to order the police authorities to immediately arraign him before a law court, or release him from custody.

The Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has therefore adjourned further proceedings in the N300 million rights claim.

Vacation Judge, Justice Chuka Obiozor of the Federal High Court, Lagos adjourned the matter after holding that there was no more urgency for the suit to be heard during the vacation.

The judge also held that the arraignment of Evans before the State High Court, last week Tuesday has mitigated against any urgency in the suit.
