Human rights activist and Afro beats king, Femi Kuti has lamented President Muhammadu Buhari’s frequent travels while Nigerian youths are being killed by operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).
The ‘Wonder Wonder’ crooner said this on Friday during the #ENDSARS protest in Lagos as Nigerians want the government to scrap the force unit a few days after Kolade Johnson was killed.
“kolade was a fan of the shrine, he comes here to enjoy himself,” he said.
“I personally do not know him, but several people here in the shrine have been mourning him, how can a Nigerian be arrested because he is on dreads?’’
“the president said, “ one innocent life is too many and the president takes so long to defend, Buhari should be in the forefront of this advocacy, hr should not even have travelled here he went, if he loses one citizen, a whole nation is lost”.
“The police are not well paid, armed, educated, the government should work on this impunity and it is saddening that such issues keep recurring.”
In his remarks, the convener of the protest, who is also a human rights activist, Mr Segun Awosanya, said the purpose of the protest was not to advocate for an end to the police force, but to trigger a change in their actions.
