Court Remands EKSU Staff For Defiling His 12-Year-Old Daughter

A Chief Magistrates Court sitting in Ado Ekiti on Friday ordered the remande of a 52- year-old staff of the Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti, Davies Noel, in prison for allegedly defiling his 12-year-old daughter.

Noel, who was said to have been committing the act at their Peace Avenue residence in Ado Ekiti for some time, was charged by the police in Ado Ekiti with incest and rape.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Caleb Leramo, told the court that “the accused person committed the offences between 2018 and October 2019.”

Leramo said, “The 12-year-old victim confided in an outsider in school about her experience at home. The confidant in turn reported the matter to the police, leading to the defendant’s arrest.”

The police prosecutor noted that “the defendant confessed to the crime and the medical report conducted on the survivor showed that her hymen had been broken.

“The offences contravened Sections 214 of the Criminal Code Law of Ekiti State 2012,”the prosecutor said. Noel, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Abdullamid Lawal, ordered that the defendant be remanded in prison while a duplicate of the case file be forwarded to the Directorate of Public Prosecution for legal advice. The case was adjourned till November 11, 2019 for mention.
