Certificate Of Return: Judge Withdraws From Okorocha’s Case

The Federal High Court judge, Justice Taiwo Taiwo, has revealed his intentions to discontinue Imo state governor, Rochas Okorocha’s suit against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)

Earlier, Okorocha filed a suit seeking to order INEC to present him a Certificate of Return as the Senator-elect for Imo West Senatorial District.

Justice Taiwo, during Wednesday’s, resumed proceeding on the case, however, said his decision to withdraw from the case, came after a petition was written against him by the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Imo West Senatorial election, Mr Jones Onyereri.

The judge noted that the case file would be transferred to the Chief Judge for re-assignment to another judge.

INEC’s refusal to issue Okorocha a certificate of return came after the state’s returning officer claimed that the governor was declared winner of the senatorial poll, under duress.
