President, Muhammadu Buhari’s failure to submit original copies of his West African Examination Council certificate to the Independent National Electoral Commissions ahead the 2019 general elections as insisted by People’s Democratic Party as a proof of his integrity has generated lots of reactions on social media
The presidency has waved aside the new controversy over the claim saying his academic credentials are in custody of the Nigerian Army. The president made the claim in an affidavit submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the flag bearer of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2019 presidential election.
Special Adviser on media and publicity, Femi Adesina in an interview said those making a fuss of the issue are idle as the issue was laid to rest before the 2015 general elections.
He added that the people’s democratic party have run out of ideas as they see defeat staring them in the face and they are desperate to cling to any straw.
Femi Adesina also said when President Buhari and others joined the military, their original certificates were collected and the military has misplaced the certificate of the president. But this does not in any way mean the president did not attend military courses and War College and the fact that the president muhammudu Buhari had rose through the ranks to become a Major-General in the Nigerian Army and a Military Head of State.
A former Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Alani Akinrinade, corroborated that the military collected the original certificates of all its officers. The PDP believes it is going to lose the elections, and they will lose, and it is raising dust over a dead issue.
This is the second time the president would not submit his credentials to the electoral body. In 2014, he said his academic certificates were with the military board. He repeated this claim in 2018.
