The Students Association of Ondo State University of Science and Technology (OSUTECH), Okitipupa, Ondo State, have shut down academic activities as they are currently protesting on ‘outrageous school fees’ introduced by the school’s management.
The highways in Okitipupa-Igbokoda has been blocked with bonfires set up by the students of the Institution which has prevented the movements of vehicles within the area.
The protest started few days after the students of Adekunle Ajasin University (AAU), Akungba-Akoko, Ondo State, disrupted the academic activities while contending for a similar purpose.
Reports gathered that OSUSTECH students are calling for downward review of the school fees which is said to be between the range of N150,000 and over N200,000.
Some of the students spoke against the government, saying the “exorbitant” fee is an attempt to deprive them of getting tertiary education, arguing that the present economy situation is not in tune with the government’s position.
The management of the institution is yet to react to the protest as at press time.
