There was tension in an Internally Displaced Persons Camp, near United Nations hub in Ngamboru Ngala local government area of Borno state, as an unknown number of terrorists tried to force their way in.
According to reports, the incident occurred on Wednesday evening at about 7 pm, when the terrorists met stiff resistance from soldiers stationed at and around the camp and the UN humanitarian hub and were successfully repelled.
Reports also said there were casualties on both sides, the number of which could not be ascertained as there was no reply to questions seeking official statement on the casualty figures from the military as at press time.
“We suspect that the terrorists are out with the target of attacking the humanitarian hub as well as the storage unit to loot food and items,” a security source said.
Sources said there has been the presence of Boko Haram group around Ngala, and attacks as such may increase especially with the commencement of the Ramadan fast.
The extent of damage has however not been ascertained.
