KANO – Aminu Bayero, the Emir of Kano, on Monday re-installed Aminu Babba Dan-Agundi as a member of the Kano Emirate Council, barely 17 years after he was deposed by the reigning emir’s father, Ado Bayero.
Sarkin Dawaki Maituta was sacked from the council by the late Emir of Kano over alleged insubordination in 2003, and lost a legal battle to reclaim the stool up to the Supreme Court.
The Apex Court, in its unanimous ruling by Justice Mary Odili on June 5, 2020, held that Dan-Agundi’s removal by the late Bayero from the positions of Sarkin Dawaki Maituta and District head of Gabasawa Local Government Area was in order.
The dramatic twist in Dan-Agundi’s reinstatement to the Emirate Council despite court verdict was contained in a letter signed by Dan Rimin Kano, Sarki Waziri and addressed to Usman Alhaji, Secretary To the State Government.
Uba Abdullahi, the Information Officer attached to SSG’s office, told newsmen in Kano that “the SSG received the letter on July 8, 2020 and has forwarded it to the executive governor and we are waiting for his approval”.
