The All Progressives Congress has accused candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party Atiku Abubakar of blackmailing President Muhammadu Buhari, this came few hours after the opposition party faulted the slow system of the President’s anti-corruption war.
Senior advocate of Nigeria and spokesman of Buhari campaign organisation Festus Keyamo said candidate of the people’s Democratic Party is a beneficiary of the slow system, as he would have been sent to jail before may 2015 when president Buhari mounted the saddle, Keyamo offered a catalogue of corrupt practices and abuse of office for which Atiku and Olusegun Obasanjo ought to have been held to account.
It would be recalled the duo granted themselves licenses to build universities while in office, a clear breach of the Code of Conduct for Public Officers.
Laundering slush funds to the United States of America using phoney companies, part of which was used to fund his present American University in Adamawa State through which he is also extorting Nigerians through exorbitant fees.
It is public knowledge that this indictment is contained in a US Congressional Report that has led to the prosecution and conviction of his accomplices in the US, which are William Jefferson and Siemens. They were convicted under a system that works, while Atiku has been walking free in Nigeria and even aspiring to the highest office in the land.
Keyamo also referred to the court case filed against Abubakar by some public spirited Nigerians alleging he never paid his Personal Income Taxes as at when due, yet he wants to ‘get Nigeria working again’.
According to the party’s National publicity secretary Lanre Issa-onilu, criticizing its candidate ahead the 2019 general elections would not distract Buhari from eradication corruption in the country.
The party however advised candidate of the opposition party, Atiku Abubakar who may be exhibiting early signs of depression and obvious frustration to dwell more on his agenda for the country instead of wasting energies on raising daily puerile allegations as President Muhammadu Buhari and the All Progressives Congress who are not his programmes for the country appear to be his main campaign issues.
Lanre Issa-onila said Nigerians are desirous of campaign that focuses on issues that matter to them but Atiku and the PDP co-travellers, are only interested in grabbing the power to continue where they stopped in their greediness.
No doubt that the All Progressive Congress administration is eager to showcase the impressive achievements recorded in the last three and half years, a campaign strategy that matters to what Nigerians are interested in.
