The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has prohibited candidates sitting for this year’s Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) from taking 18 items into their examination centres.
According to an official of the board, the prohibited items are Wrist Watches, Pen/Biros, Mobile phones or similar electronic devices, Spy reading glasses, calculators or similar electronic devices, USB, CD, hard disks and or similar storage devices and books or any reading/writing material.
Other banned items are Cameras, Recorders, Microphones, Earpieces, Ink/pen readers, Smart lenses, Smart rings/ jewellery, Smart buttons, Bluetooth devices, Automated Teller Machine (ATM) cards and Erasers.
In an interview with newsmen, JAMB’s spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, said the decision became necessary to ensure the reliability of the board’s examination.
He added that JAMB’s officials are allowed to inspect eyeglasses or similar devices and such items will be confiscated if the items do not conform with the rules and regulations of the board.
”We urge candidates to abide by the rules and regulations of the board. Candidates should not come with any of the prohibited items,” he said.
