US Open 2017: Female Top Seeds Advances To The Next Round

The US Open kicked off yesterday with top seeds advancing to the next round.

With the exception of Johanna Konta and Simona Halep who suffered shocking defeats in their games, other top stars qualified to the second round.

Third seed Garbine Maguruza blast past America’s Varvara Lepchenko 6-0, 6-3, 13th seed Petra Kvitova defeated  Jelena Jankovic 7-5 7-5 while veteran Venus Williams battled hard against Viktoria Kuzmova of Slovakia as she won 6-3 3-6 6-2 to also earn her place in the next round.

In other matches, fifth seed Caroline Wozniacki cruised to a 6-1 7-5 win over Romanian Mihaela Buzarnescu and 11th seed Dominika Cibulkova came from set down to beat fellow Slovak Jana Cepelova 7-6, 6-3, 6-2.

French lady Carolina Gracia was not left out of the victory party easing through to a 6-0, 6-1 over Tereza Martincova of Czech Republic.
