The world cup is live! As Cristiano Ronaldo scored his fourth goal at the World Cup in Russia on Wednesday and with now 85 Portugal strikes is the most successful European of all time, according to statisticians Opta.
Ronaldo’s header for a 1-0 lead against Morocco moved him one goal past Ferenc Puskas who had found the net 84 times in 89 caps for Hungary and Spain between 1945 and 1962.
Ronaldo was playing his 152nd international in Moscow’s Luzhniki stadium since a debut in 2003. His first goal came a year later at Euro 2004 against Greece, and he scored a hat-trick in their 2018 World Cup openning 3-3 draw with Spain.
The Real Madrid striker is number two worldwide, with only Iran’s Ali Daei ahead of him with 109 goals from 149 caps from 1993 to 2006.
