UEFA Super Cup: Real Madrid’s First Goal Was Offside – Mourinho Laments

Jose Mourinho has lamented his side’s loss to Real Madrid would have ended up in a penalty shootout with the use of Video Assistant Referee (VAR).

Manchester United lost 2-1 to Real Madrid in the UEFA Super Cup in Skopje, Macedonia with Mourinho laying claims to Madrid’s first goal scored by Casemiro. Video replay shows that the Brazilian might have been marginally offside when converting home Dani Carvajal’s cross to give Madrid the lead in the encounter.

“I think we did well, I think we lost to one goal which shows the result was really short and one of their goals was an offside. With a good VAR system it would be 1-1 and extra time,” he told BT Sport.

“They could have scored more goals than they did, we could have scored more goals than we did. They had a period of dominance at middle of the first half and we had a period of dominance at middle of the second half.”
