Maurizio Sarri says has a ready-made replacement for Gary Cahill
The Italian gaffer revealed that youngster Ethan Ampadu is available.
The ex-England star has been linked to several Premier League clubs Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri has revealed that a ready-made replacement is available for departing center-back Gary Cahill. The former England defender is set to bring his seven-year romance at Stamford Bridge to an end this summer because of limited game-time under the Italian gaffer. The 33-year-old has played just seven matches for the Blues this season but has made just one appearance in the Premier League.
The 61-capped England player has be linked with several clubs in the English topflight division including Southampton and Fulham. But Sarri brought up the subject about Cahill’s future at his press conference ahead of the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg tie against Tottenham at Wembley on Tuesday. “His mind is not completely involved in our situation,” said Sarri. “We have to wait. For Cahill, the situation is different. We have (Ethan) Ampadu so we don’t need a replacement.”
The 18-year-old has featured in the Europa League matches against PAOK Salonika and MOL Vidi, while he also started and played 90 minutes in Saturday’s 2-0 FA Cup victory over Nottingham Forest. The former Exeter City youngster who can play in the defence and midfield has six senior caps for Wales after impressing at youth level.
