Chelsea has never lost in the opening day of the Premier league since losing 2-1 at Coventry City in 1998/1999 season.

Burnley put a stop to the record with 3-2 win at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea were undone by two red cards as captain Tim Cahill and midfielder Cesc Fabregas were both sent off in each half.

A brace from Sam Voakes and a stunning effort from Stephen Ward gave Burnley a 3-0 half-time lead before new signing Alvaro Morata and defender David Luiz scored for the Champions.

The two goals proved too little too late as Burnley held on to a deserved victory.
