A bank worker and two policemen are said to have been killed during a robbery invasion at First generation bank in Ijero, headquarters of Ijero Local Government Area of Ekiti State on Monday evening.
Report says the robbers had forcefully gained entry into the bank by deploying dynamite to destroy the security door of the bank, made away with unspecified amount of money in the raid, which lasted for about an hour and shooting indiscriminately on several civilians leading to the deaths.
It added that the robbers numbering eight, entered the town through the sleepy neighboring town of Ikoro-Ekiti attacking the police divisional headquarters where they wrecked havoc before storming the bank an ambulance containing a casket loaded with guns, disguised to be going for a funeral party.
The Police Public Relations Officer in Ekiti State, Caleb Ikechukwu alleged the robbery incident occurred at 5:30 pm as the robbers are said to have acted on information that the bank received a huge cash deposit earlier within the day, the heavy shooting by the robber’s paralyzed transportation, economic and social activities in the town.
According to the Divisional Crime Officer in charge of Ijero-Ekiti police station, At the police station, the gunmen were said to have killed two policemen on duty.
Others killed, were a security guard at the bank, shot around the Automated Teller Machine stand, and an aged man who was passing by at the time of the attack.
