Lagos Takes Felabration To Global Stage, Goes To Notting Hill Carnival

The Felabration 2017 Planning Committee has unveiled a wide range of activities in celebration of 20 years after the transition to eternity of legendary Afro beat musician, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti in partnership with Lagos State government, reports BIODUN KUPOLUYI

Announcing the involvement of Lagos State, the Chairman of the Planning Committee, Theo Lawson said Felabration, in its 20th Edition would go on a global stage at the Notting Hill Carnival, Europe’s biggest street party with Fela’s effigy on the floats and the queens dancing to his pulsating rhythm on the streets of London to project Fela’s iconic status and legacy. The theme for this year’s event is The Prophecy and the theme song is PansaPansa.

The Prophecy reflects the current situation of Nigeria as predicted by the world renowned musician who joined his ancestors August 2, 1999.  To mark 20 years of Fela’s glorious exit, Felabration, fast becoming a global celebration would kick off October 9 and run through October 15 with estimated 250,000 thousand people expected to take part in over 30 events.

According to Lawson, this year’s edition of Felabration gets bigger and better as the organizers announced partnership with lifestyle and music channel, Trace Nigeria to raise the profile of the festival with a planned tour package on the channel broadcasting to 160 countries across Africa and beyond. Trace, the organizers disclosed,  would shoot a new documentary on Felabration.

The Managing Director of Trace Nigeria, Sam Onyemelukwe said: “Fela is the single most important foundation for Nigerian and African music and social movement. His life, music and message have paved the way for creative over the last five decades, and it is our honor to partner to celebrate and remember the legacy and “The Prophecy.”

Also for the first time, Felabration licensed for global participation in Europe, US, Asia and other parts of Africa will hold in Lagos Island and Abuja on dates that will be announced later.

Felabration in its 20th edition will host a symposium: 40Years After FESTAC, 20Years After Fela: Wither The Pan African Dream with Prof. Patrice L.O Lumumba as Keynote Speaker.

Other highlights of the event alongside seven days of musical performances of artistes include, Secondary School Debates, Dance Competition and a Dress Like Fela Day.

Billed for performances are local and international artistes including Haitian-born Wyclef Jean and Sauti Sol from Kenya.

Besides the support from the Lagos State Government, the organizers appealed to fans of Fela worldwide to contribute to the crowd funding initiative leveraging on technology to ensure a successful event. For visitors coming to experience Felabration, the organizers have a planned tour package designed to showcase Lagos as a tourist’s destination.

Felabration, the organizers revealed, has been listed on FEST 300.

Hi, just came across this article. Its a fantastic illustration of how small to medium sized businesses can use Awards based promotion to get their companies recognised on the 1st page of Google. Awards programmes offer many benefits to winners. After all they bring recognition and you can share the news of your win with your employees, clients, industry peers and target market as much as you like. Additonally awards offer prestige and status, giving potential clients peace of mind that they are working with a reputable company. There are many types of awards programmes, including those that host awards ceremonies (and you pay per table), organisations that award only their members (and you pay for membership and advertising) and those that provide marketing materials. The latter is a great choice for those who are unsure about the benefits of using corporate awards programmes because generally nominees and winners do not have to pay a penny to be considered. Winners often receives online recognition, usually with a reach much greater than their own marketing efforts can offer. Other free benefits can include the use of an announcement. Most participants have the option to purchase additional marketing materials to further promote their win, if they wish to, for use in social media campaigns, on their own website, email marketing campaigns or in customer newsletters.
