The Katsina State Government has announced plans to reconstruct Daura Central Market to increase revenue generation and provide conducive trading environment for the people.
The State’s Commissioner for Commerce, Industry and Tourism, Alhaji Abubakar Yusuf disclosed this when he was on an inspection visit to the market.
He revealed the decision was as a result formal complaints received by the ministry from people of the community on the deteroirating nature of the market.
He also state that the Governor had odered the ministry to carry out inspection and assessment to ascertain the situation on ground with a view to taking quick action that would the market hospitable, conducive and easily accessible.
According to him, the ministry has since presented recommendations to the government, asserting that “we shall very soon begin renovating the market.”
He explained that the market would be reconstructed and provided with a capacious business environment for economic activities to thrive and prosper.
The Officer in charge of the Daura Central Market, Alhaji Sani Mohammed, lauded the approval of the state government for the proposed reconstruction.
He spefically stressed for the construction of perimeter fence, shops, stores, public convenience and a Mosque in the market to provide comfort and convenience to those who patronise the facility.
He said the market attracts patronage from neighbouring local government areas and Niger Republic.
The Daura Central Market operates only on Wednesdays but it is grappling with poor infrastructure which needs urgent intervention.
