The Chairman of the Collecting Society of Nigeria (COSON) has revealed that he was with the deceased Reggae icon, Ras Kimono last night and left him in high spirit on his hospital bed.
Okoroji told E24-7 Magazine that he visited Kimono at the Lagoon Hospital, Ikoyi on Saturday and he was excited to see him and other guests.
“When he saw me, his spirit was high. He hailed me Chairmo! Chairmo! I was happy because he received me and other guests cheerfully. We talked and he was in high spirit. I couldn’t have thought that was the last I would see Kimono alive. I never knew he would be gone.
“That was supposed to be a healing period, out of a difficult situation. He was on the mend, I thought.”
Okoroji said he received the news shortly before he boarded the plane to the East earlier today, Sunday.
“I just felt I should call him before I travel to the East today and I received the news that he passed on not quite long ago. I have to pull my luggage, cancelled my trip and I’m going to the hospital now. We were together at the 60th birthday celebration of Sir Shina Peters. He was full of life.
Kimono, one of the newly elected Directors on the Board of COSON, Okoroji, in his tribute said he was: “A fantastic human being. No hassles, a free spirit. This shows the vanity of life. But I can assure you that even in death, we will celebrate Ras Kimono. May his soul rest in peace!
