Cincinnati Open: Nadal Powers Through, Zverev Crashes

The French Open champion, Rafael Nadal had no difficulty as he powers through to book a place in the next round of the Cincinnati Masters.

Rafael Nadal defeated Frenchman Richard Gasquet 6-3 6-4 to qualify for the third round at Cincinnati. Nadal, will next face fellow Spaniard Albert Ramos-Vinolas.

Germany’s Alexander Zverev, who beat Roger Federer in the Rogers Cup final last week surprisingly lost to American 87th ranked Francis Tiafoe 6-4 3-6 4-6.

Zverev, 20, admitted that tiredness played a part as the reason he lost the match.

“I’m not a machine. I’m tired. There was no hiding it. There’s a physical limit to all of us and I’ve reached that now,” Zverev admitted.

“This match is already forgotten. But it’s something that’s normal. It happens to all of us.”
